Most bird cages are made of iron or steel for economical reasons, as well as for strength and durability. There are a variety of decorative bird cages that are very attractive and a selection of powder-coat colors that will compliment your home.
Stainless steel bird cages are growing in popularity for the same reasons people have transformed their kitchens with stainless steel appliances, i.e. beauty, easy cleaning/sanitizing and rust resistance. Although a stainless steel cage is a more costly investment initially, it is worthwhile because of longevity ... and because it is virtually bird proof.
Taking good care and maintenance of your cage is not only necessary for your bird, but will increase any cage's useful life.

Flat top, dome top, play top, split-level combos, corner parrot cages, flight bird cages, double parrot cages or stackable bird cages, hexagon and octagon-shaped cages (perfect substitutes for unsafe round bird cages) as well as indoor and outdoor aviaries are among the variety of bird cages offered at Bird Cage Portal. Some styles have variations and are offered in different sizes so you can select one that is most suitable for your bird.
Dome top cages allow more light into the cage and provide more climbing, wing and headroom. Perches and swings can be placed higher in this style cage. Dome top cages are ideal when your bird has a separate play stand to exercise outside it's cage.
Play top cages offer a 2-in-1 combo with spacious living inside the cage plus welcome access to a play space on top of the cage. Play top cages come in two different designs. The simple play top style allows the dome of the cage to open (known as an "open dome cage") so the bird can sit on a perch inserted in the open cage roof. The other style provides a play top above the living quarters. This style provides a slide-out removable tray to keep bird droppings from reaching the cage. The best play top cages provide food bowls and a toy hook, as well.
Dome top and play top cages are two popular basic bird cage styles. Bird Cage Portal offers 13 categories for you to find the bird cage that will be the perfect fit for you and your bird.

Features to look for are removable seed guards, storage shelves and cabinets, adequate door sizes, secure locking devices, removable litter trays and grates and outside food bowl access.
Removable Seed Guards are commonly offered on medium to large cages. Mess managing accessories are available for small cages.
Some cages provide living quarters for your bird above storage racks or cabinets ... a nice feature.
Look for cages with adequate door size to easily remove your bird and clean the inside of the cage, and secure locking mechanisms. This is especially important for cockatoos and other talented escape artists.
A good cage design will also include removable litter trays and grates for easily cleaning bird cages. If you elect not to use a grate in your cage be sure the cage design doesn't allow a bird to escape when the grate is removed.
Medium to large bird cages usually offer the advantage of outside access to food bowls. It is ideal for these food bowls access doors to be solid metal which helps cut down the scattering of food.
